Richmond Welcomes La Salle For Senior Day Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team will have a quick turnaround and host La Salle on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Noon at the Robins Center. SPIDERS EARN TOUGH HOME WIN AGAINST SAINT JOSEPH'S
The University of Richmond women's basketball team held off a physical Saint Joseph's team and pulled away late for a 68-58 win Friday at the Robins Center. The Spiders outscored the Hawks, 18-13 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Richmond improved to 11-6 overall and holds an 8-4 Atlantic 10 record with three games remaining on the schedule. The Spiders are in a three-way tie for fourth place with VCU (8-4) and Rhode Island (8-4).
Junior Kate Klimkiewicz scored 23 points with 13 rebounds to post her second double-double of her career. Klimkiewicz was 3-for-3 from the three-point line and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Freshman Addie Budnik finished with nine points but had a clutch three-pointer with 53 seconds left in the game.
ABOUT LA SALLE
La Salle is 10-11 overall and 6-8 in Atlantic 10 play after falling short at VCU, 63-62 in overtime on Feb. 18. The Explorers held a three-point lead in overtime but the Rams scored the final four points of the game to win by one point. La Salle's Kayla Spruill posted a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Spruill is second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game and second in three-pointers made with 32. Claire Jacobs had 19 points against VCU and leads the team in scoring at 16.3 points per game. Jacobs leads the team with 35 three-pointers made. La Salle has hit 165 three-pointers in 21 games this season.
HISTORY AGAINST LA SALLE
This will be the 31st all-time meeting between the two teams with Richmond leading the all-time series with a 23-7 record, including six-straight wins. In the last meeting, UR earned a 67-61 road win at La Salle on Feb. 9, 2020. The Spiders outscored La Salle, 23-13 in the third quarter as Claire Holt finished with 20 points and Alex Parson had 12 points. Kayla Spruill led La Salle with 14 points and Claire Jacobs had 13 points off the bench. In the last game at the Robins Center, Richmond held on for a 63-61 win on Jan. 23, 2020. The Explorers outscored UR 16-7 in the fourth quarter but the Spiders made a defensive stop in the final seconds. Aniyah Carpenter scored 11 points off the bench.
SENIOR DAY - ALEX PARSON & KAILYN FEE
The Spiders will honor their two seniors in Alex Parson (North Chesterfield, Va.) and Kailyn Fee (Vienna, Va.). Parson has played in 109 games and will make her 80th-straight start in a row against La Salle. Fee has played in 67 career games, making 14 starts and made 65 three-pointers during her freshman season in 2017.
KLIMKIEWICZ POSTS SECOND CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Junior Kate Klimkiewicz finished with 23 points, a new Atlantic 10 personal high, and grabbed 13 rebounds, one off her career-high of 14. Klimkiewicz set the tone early with a layup right off the tip and had two fast break layups off steals in the first quarter. Klimkiewicz had four offensive rebounds and came away with nine defensive rebounds. She is second on the team in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds per game.
