Men's Cross Country Takes First; Women Third at Richmond Winter XC Invite

RICHMOND, Va. – Spider cross country began their 2021 spring season at Pole Green Park Friday afternoon. The Spider men posted a first place finish in the eight-kilometer race, taking four of the top five spots. The women earned a third-place team finish, with two finishes in the top ten.
The Spider men were dominant in their first race of the year. Freshman Stuart Terrill (Crozet, Va.) took the top spot by nearly 20 seconds, finishing in 24:42.5. Peter Borger (Malvern, Pa.) was the next finisher, earning a second- place time of 25:01.9. Noah Yuro (Howell, N.J.) was third at 25:11.2. Noah Campbell (Montpelier, Va.) turned it on down the home stretch, passing a George Mason runner and finishing 0.89 seconds faster to earn the fifth-place spot at 25:18.0.
Rounding out the Spider scoring was junior Patrick Sutphin (Mechanicsville, Va.), finishing 14th (26:11.7).
The women finished third in Friday's race, with a pair of top 10 finishes. The first Spider across the finish line was freshman Elizabeth Stockman (Rocky Hill, Conn.), who finished third with a time of 17:35.7. Sophomore Lily Snow (Glen Allen, Va.) added a seventh-place finish at 18:15.0, seven seconds off of her personal best 5k time set at the Great American XC Fest in North Carolina in 2019. Also scoring for the Spiders were Manon Stephen (Basking Ridge, N.J.), in 16th at 18:50.7, Caroline Robelen (Glen Allen, Va.) 21st at 18:59.7 and freshman Tess Pisanelli (Ridgefield, Conn.) 25th with a time of 19:12.1.
The Spiders return to Pole Green Park on Saturday the 20th as part of the Spider/Patriot Cross Country Classic, co-hosted with George Mason.
