Xavier Marshall Named CAA Football Rookie Of The Week

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond redshirt freshman linebacker Xavier Marshall (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named the CAA Football Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning. This marks the first weekly honor of Marshall's career and the first Spider honored this spring 2021 season.
Marshall led the Spiders to their second-straight CAA victory to open the year with a 38-14 win on the road at Elon. He was part of the Spiders' defense that limited the Phoenix to just 42 total plays on offense and only 72 yards rushing. He finished second on the team with five tackles on the day.
Marshall's biggest play of the day came in the fourth quarter as he notched his first career interception, ending Elon's comeback attempt. His interception was one of three on the day for the Spiders' defense as Richmond held the Phoenix to just 220 yards of total offense.
Marshall and the Spiders are on the road again this Saturday, traveling to Harrisonburg, Va., for a meeting against No. 1 James Madison. Game time is set for 4 p.m. and will be televised on NBC Sports Washington Plus. The game will be streamed on FloFootball and will be radio broadcast on 99.5 FM/950 AM ESPN Richmond.
