Claire Hinkle Earns A-10 Defensive Player of the Week
03/29/2021 | Women's Soccer
RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's soccer junior goalkeeper Claire Hinkle (Tipp City, Ohio) was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. This honor is the first weekly honor of Hinkle's career.
"I am very excited for Claire to receive this honor from the A-10, head coach Marty Beall said. "Claire did a fantastic job of organizing her back line, handling crosses, had great distribution and made some key saves. Without question, Claire played a huge role in our win over GW."
Hinkle posted a shutout in a 2-0 road win at George Washington, helping UR earn a win in D.C. for the first time since 2012. Hinkle made a career-high 10 saves in the victory, making five saves in each half. The Colonials were picked to finish second in the preseason A-10 standings and Richmond avenged a 1-0 loss in the season opener to split the season series.
Hinkle has started the last two games for the Spiders only allowing one goal and holds a 0.45 goals against average in 200 minutes.
Hinkle and the Spiders will host Davidson on Thursday, April 1 at 3 p.m. at President's Field at River Road.
