Dessi Zlateva Named A-10 Player of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond graduate student Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) earned Atlantic 10 women's tennis Player of the Week honors after going 3-0 in singles leading Richmond to a pair of wins last weekend, the league office announced Tuesday.
Zlateva went a perfect 3-0 in singles leading Richmond to a 2-1 record last week with wins against George Washington (W, 5-0) and at Navy (W, 4-3). Zlateva started the week with a straight-sets win against VCU's Luminita Tutunaru, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Zlateva earned another straight-sets win against GW's Alexis Nelson, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. She finished the weekend by moving up to No. 1 singles and defeated Navy's Jillian Taggart, 6-4, 6-4 to help the Spiders earn a 4-3 win.
The Sofia, Bulgaria native also earned a pair of doubles wins at No. 1 doubles with senior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) against George Washington and Navy. Zlateva has won five singles matches in a row without dropping a set and leads the team with a 6-1 record in singles.
Richmond will welcome William & Mary on Sunday, April 11 at Noon at the Westhampton Tennis Courts.
