Spiders Fall on the Road at James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team dropped the doubles point and were shutout in singles in a 7-0 loss at James Madison Saturday.
The Spiders (0-2) lost two of the three doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, freshman Carly Cohen (Pepper Pike, Ohio) and senior Adrienne Haynes (Asheville, N.C.) lost 6-0 against Daniela Voloh and Kylie Moulin.
The Dukes earned a 1-0 lead after Natalia Nikolopoulou and Alexis Franco won 6-1 against graduate student Dessi Zlateva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Emily Dunbar (Medina, Ohio) at No. 1 doubles.
In the final doubles match, sophomore Andrea Campodonico (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Sara Salemyr (Stockholm, Sweden) won 6-2 against Daria Afanasyeva and Jona Roka at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Afanasyeva won in straight sets against Dunbar, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Roka made it 3-0 James Madison after a 6-2, 7-5 win against Zlateva at No. 2 singles. Voloh clinched the win for James Madison with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Cohen at No. 5 singles.
Campodonico lost a heartbreaker at No. 3 singles in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-7 (9-11), 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) against Alexis Franco. Campodonico won the first set tiebreaker, 7-6 (11-9) but dropped the second set 2-6. In the final set, she fell in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-1).
At No. 4 singles, Moulin earned a 7-5, 6-4 win against Salemyr to push JMU ahead 6-0. In the final match, Amanda Nord won in straight sets against Haynes, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Richmond will host Norfolk State on Sunday, March 14 in a double-header with the men's tennis team.
