WALLACE, N.C. -- The Richmond Spiders women's golf team combined for a team score of 289 (+1) in the final round of the River Landing Classic on Tuesday, matching the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history. The Spiders were paced by a pair of 3-under rounds from freshman Rory Weinfurther and junior Emily Ward on Tuesday afternoon.Â
In just her third competitive collegiate round, Weinfurther recorded five birdies and two bogeys en route to her 69, tied for fourth-lowest individual round in team history. Ward was spotless on Tuesday afternoon, posting no bogeys and three birdies to shoot 69 (-3), three shots better than her lowest career round entering the event.Â
Sophomores Muskan Uppal (74, +2) and Vicky Zhu (77, +5) contributed Richmond's final two team scores in Round 3 as the Spiders finished the 54-hole event in eighth place in the 13-team field at 881 (+17).Â
"It was awesome to see Emily and Rory shoot their career best rounds," said coach Calle Barlow. "Overall, I thought we played pretty steady and did a great job of staying patient. I saw so many good things that I think will help us moving forward this spring."
Junior Naomi Mitchell also shot the best round of her collegiate career, carding a 70 (-2) in the second round, which ended Tuesday morning. She finished the event tied for 29th at 4-over par, matching Uppal for the best finish of any Spider. Mitchell's 2-under total through 36 holes was the third-best 36-hole score in program history and her 220 total, along with Uppal, is tied for the ninth-best 54-hole score in program history.Â
