Swim and Dive Begins A-10 Championship with a Pair of Silvers in Two Relays

GENEVA, Ohio – After the first night of competition at the SPIRE Institute, the Spiders sit in second place at the Atlantic 10 Championship. The first night of the meet featured the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. Richmond took second in each race to earn a team score of 68. Davidson, the winner of both relays, is currently in first place with a score of 80.
In the 200-medley relay, the quartet of Katelyn Pennell (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Sara Greene (Tega Cay, S.C.), Claire O'Shaughnessy (Laurel, Md.) and Lauren Medlin (Cary, N.C.) took home silver, finishing in a time of 1:41.14. Davidson took first with a 1:40.92 time.
The 800 freestyle relay also took home a silver medal. Alexa Connors (Kingston, Mass.), Maggie Purcell (Southampton, N.Y.), Medlin and Megan Carson (Apex, N.C.) finished at 7:19.84, 0.36 off the top time of the race earned by Davidson.
The Spiders get back in the pool tomorrow morning at 8:30 for the preliminary rounds of the 500 freestyle, the 200 individual medley and the 50 freestyle. Those who qualify for finals will race at 5 p.m. The diving competition also begins tomorrow, at 1 p.m. from George Mason. The diving preliminary round will be followed shortly after with the finals. All competitions will be streamed on ESPN+.
