Four Spiders Named Atlantic 10 All-Conference

RICHMOND, Va. – Four University of Richmond field hockey student-athletes were honored by the Atlantic 10 Thursday afternoon, earning All-Conference accolades prior to the start of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship.

Juniors Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands) and Olivia Frazier (Cary, N.C.) were named as First Team All-Conference honorees. Bongers also earned All-Academic Team honors as well. Sophomore goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) was named to the Second Team All-Conference, while freshman Madi Hyatt (Fredericksburg, Va.) earned All-Rookie Team accolades.

Bongers leads the Spiders with six goals and is second in total points, adding an assist for 12 points, in only five total games this spring season. She collected A-10 Weekly honors for her two-goal game against Davidson on April 19. Bongers, a 2019 All-Conference Second Team selection, paces the A-10 with a 1.20 goals per game average and ranks fourth in the nation. She is sixth in the nation and tops the A-10 with a 2.60 points per game average. She is also a three-time ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree.

Frazier paces Richmond with 13 total points, on four goals and six assists, starting in all six games this season. She tallied a hat trick and one assist for career-high seven points in the Spiders 9-0 win against Saint Louis, earning A-10 Weekly honors for her efforts. She picked up her other goal in the road victory at Saint Louis. Frazier's 1.00 assist per game average ranks second in the nation, while her 2.33 points per game average is ninth nationally.

Starting in all six contests for the Spiders as a sophomore, Latta has made 23 saves in 50 shots faced this season for a .821 save percentage, which ranks ninth in the nation. She has only allowed five goals for 0.95 goals against average, good for 13th nationally. She was named A-10 FH Defensive Player of the Week twice this season, (Mar. 23 & April 19). For the first weekly honor, she tallied a career-high five saves and picked up the shutout victory for her first career win against Davidson. For her second weekly award, she tallied one save in the three shots she faced to keep the Wildcats scoreless for her 45 minutes of action.

Fourth seeded Richmond will take on top seeded and host VCU on Friday at 11 a.m. in the first semifinal of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship at Cary Street Field. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+.
