
Field Hockey Falls to VCU in A-10 Semifinals

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell 1-0 to VCU Friday afternoon in the 2021 Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal at Cary Street Field.
From the opening whistle, it was a defensive battle as both teams struggled to get the ball into their attacking third.
Richmond (4-3) had the first opportunities with two of their four penalty corners in the first quarter, but they were unable to find the back of the net.
VCU (8-0) broke through on a penalty corner play at the 2:22 mark of the game.
Freshmen Olivia DeCain (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) and Cori Nichols (Powhatan, Va.) both registered the Spiders two shots on goal, while juniors Addie Nash (Midlothian, Va.) and Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands) also tallied shots.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made three saves, all in the second half.
