Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Saint Joseph’s in A-10 Semifinal

Amherst, Mass. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team fell to Saint Joseph's 19-8 in the first semifinal of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship at UMass' Garber Field.
Richmond, completing the season at 10-2, was led by redshirt senior Sam Geiersbach (West Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y.). Both Geiersbach and Frank scored three goals each in the contest. Frank also added a team-high nine draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Geiersbach had one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Senior Nicole Concannon (Syosset, N.Y.) scored the Spiders first goal of the game, while junior Marina Miller (Wexford, Pa.) tallied a second half goal and two draw controls.
Saint Joseph's jumped on Richmond, quickly building out its lead to 5-0 before Concannon tallied the Spiders first goal at the 19:34 mark. Sophomore Sophia DiCenso (Foxboro, Mass.) found Geiersbach for her first goal on the day at 11:38. Dicenso also chipped in a team-high three ground balls and a draw control. Frank scored the Spiders third goal with three minutes left before halftime.
After the Hawks tallied the first goal of the second half, Richmond got quick back-to-back goals from Geiersbach, off a pass from Arden Tierney (Port Washington, N.Y.), and Frank to cut the lead to 11-5.
Frank tallied her third goal of the game, and 37th on the season, at the 17:46 mark after picking up the ground ball off a Miller shot rebound.
The Hawks went on a five-goal run to put it out of reach at 18-6. Miller scored her goal at the 5:51 mark after collecting the draw control. Geiersbach completed her hat trick with 1:43 left in the game.
Graduate student goalkeeper Megan Gianforte (Brielle, N.J.) took the loss, allowing 15 goals while making four saves. Freshman Nicole Burney (Yardley, Pa.) made one save and allowed four goals in eight minutes of action.
SJU held the advantage shots (31-21), draw controls (15-14) and free position shots (8-3) while committing fewer turnovers (10-14).
