ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Richmond Spiders men's golf team will enter Sunday's final round at the Atlantic 10 Championship in seventh place after carding a team score of 295 (+7) on Saturday, bringing them to 19 strokes over par for the tournament. Sophomore Lou Baker led the Spiders with a 1-under 71 on Saturday and is currently tied for 10th in the field of 52 at 2-over par (146).Â
"If you hit the greens, you're going to have good looks and my putter just got hot so that was definitely a good little stretch there," said Baker of his play on the front 9 on Saturday, when he recorded five birdies to just one bogey to make the turn in 32 (-4). "You play a front 9 like that and it's hard to not start thinking about what this round could end up being and I think i fell victim to that today," said Baker, who played the back 9 in 3-over par. "I didn't play bad on the back I just had a couple of birdie putts that didn't fall."Â
Baker, whose 10 birdies are tied for the most of any golfer in the field, is part of a group of four golfers tied for 10th at 146 (+2). He leads three Spiders who will enter Sunday's final round in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard, all of whom are playing in their first conference championship. Sophomore Ben Cooper is tied for tied for 14th at 147 (+3) after shooing a 1-over 73 on Saturday. Freshman Garrett Clark is tied for 19th at 148 (+4) after shooting an even-par 72 in Round 2. Clark has played the Par 4s on the Nicklaus Course at Reunion Resort at 1-under par, tied for fourth best in the field.Â
Senior Michael Baker is tied for 37th at 155 (+11), one shot in front of teammate Michael Childress, who is tied for 43rd. Baker shot 80 on Saturday, while Childress carded a 79.Â
At 19-over par, the Spiders are currently two shots behind St. Bonaventure and George Mason, who are tied for fifth at +17. Davidson will enter Sunday's final round at 4-under par, five shots clear of second-place Rhode Island.Â
"It'll be nice to get out early and try to post a number," said Baker of Sunday's final round. The Spiders will be paired with George Washington and George Mason and start the final round at 9:35 AM.Â
