RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond swimming and diving head coach Matt Barany has announced the hiring of Kris Santos to be the program's new head dive coach. Santos joins the Spiders after spending the last two seasons at West Virginia University as a graduate assistant with the dive program.
"I'm excited to join the University of Richmond's Swimming and Diving program, the commitment and passion displayed by the staff promotes an amazing atmosphere to be a part of." Santos said, "I look forward to getting the opportunity to work with these driven student-athletes and continue to develop the web these Spiders call home."
"We're excited to have Kris joining the program." Barany said, "He is motivated to recruit divers to Richmond and he has a training plan designed for their development."
As a graduate assistant at WVU, he worked as the head recruiter for the past two seasons, planning and organizing visits for potential student-athletes. He worked in partnership with the head coach to write and execute practice plans and in-season training programs. He wrote and led dry land workouts, circuits, conditioning and drills. He's also used DiveMeets and Colorado Timing System for the electronic scoring of dual meets.
Before arriving at WVU, he worked as the graduate assistant head diving coach at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. While with the Bulldogs, Santos led the development of the dry land facility on campus that opened in August of 2019. He created and ran all home meets, most away meets and helped host several invitationals.
Santos also worked as the meet director for the 2020 NCAA Zones A and the Big XII Conference diving meets. Doing so, he created event and meet structure for both events, acted as the coordinator between all coaches on meet information and was the liaison between WVU and the meets' host sites.
At the club level, he's worked with The State University of New York at Buffalo as a dive coach and camp counselor, while also working with Wings Diving Club as an assistant coach.
