RICHMOND, Va. – After a year in which fans weren't able to attend games at the Robins Center, Spider supporters are lining up to return to Richmond men's basketball at a record pace. Richmond Athletics has sold over 400 new season tickets for the 2021-22 season, the highest amount on record, and more than 97 percent of existing season-ticket holders chose to renew their seats for the 2021-22 season, also the highest figure in Richmond Athletics department records.
"We're really looking forward to once again playing in front our of fans, friends, and family this season," said Richmond coach Chris Mooney. "The A-10's top teams and some of the nation's best mid-major programs will visit the Robins Center, and I know our team and our crowd will be ready."
"Our fans are super excited for this season. With the combination of not being able to attend games last season, our exciting 2021-2022 home schedule and our experienced team returning, we are moving tickets at a record pace. We can't wait to tip-off," said Mark Driscoll, Senior Director of Strategic Ticketing and Sales Analytics
The Spiders recently announced their full home schedule for the upcoming season, which includes nine Atlantic 10 games and six non-conference games. In A-10 play, Richmond will host conference contenders Davidson (Jan. 14), St. Bonaventure (Feb. 4), and Saint Louis (Feb. 25) in a trio of Friday night games that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN networks. The Spiders home games vs VCU (Jan. 29 as part of the Richmond Area Honda Dealers Capital City Classic) and Dayton (March 1) will also be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
Richmond's non-conference home schedule is highlighted by battles with mid-major powers Georgia State (Nov. 16) and Toledo (Dec. 11) and a December 19 game vs in-state rival Old Dominion.
2021-22 season mini plans are set to go on sale on September 27 and single-game tickets on October 6. 2021-22 will be the 50th season of basketball at the Robins Center, which opened in 1972. Richmond Athletics will be celebrating 50 seasons of basketball at the Robins Center all season long with interviews with Spider basketball greats, giveaways, special merchandise, and more.
