Spider Field Hockey Drops Heartbreaker to No. 8 Saint Joseph’s

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Field Hockey fell 1-0 to No. 8 Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon at Crenshaw Field in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
The Spiders fall to 2-7 on the season and 2-1 in league play, while the Hawks move to 8-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference action.
The teams battled for the offensive upper hand for the first half, as the squads both tallied four shots with only one on goal and three corners each.
Saint Joseph's upped their offensive pressure in the second half, as they took 19 shots, including 12 in the third quarter. The Hawks also collected 11 of their 14 penalty corners in the third and fourth quarters.
The Hawks broke through the Spiders penalty corner defense, scoring the game-winner in the 54th minute.
Spiders goalkeeper Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) had an impressive day in the cage, collecting eight saves.
Senior Steffie Bongers (Weert, The Netherlands) and juniors Lindsey Frank (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and Regan McCrossan (Wexhaw, N.C.) all tallied the Spiders three shots on goal. Freshmen Stevie Drum (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Annie Nash (Midlothian, Va.) also took shots for Richmond.
Richmond heads out on the road to take on Davidson on Friday, October 1 for a 6 p.m. contest. Then on Sunday, October 3 the Spiders will head to Norfolk to take on No. 21 Old Dominion Sunday, October 3 at 12 p.m.
