Women’s Cross Country Takes Second at 39th ECAC Championships
10/14/2022 | Cross Country
New York— The University of Richmond women's cross country team finished second overall at Friday's 39th ECAC Cross Country Championships at the Bronx's Van Cortlandt Park.
The women finished with four runners in the top 50 and 177 points in the 34-teram race— 72 more than winner Stony Brook. The Spiders edged third place finisher New Hampshire by just two points.
Madison Trippett was the first to cross for the Spiders in the 6K race, taking home 12th overall with a 21:42.7 clocking. Elizabeth Stockman was next with a 21:59.6 for 21st.
Next to cross was Lauren Kurtz at 26th with a time of 22:05.7, followed by Isabel Blaylock (45th, 22:24.7, PR) and Manon Stephen (73rd, 22:44.2) to round out Spider scorers.
The second-place finish is the best for the Spiders since it did the same in 2017, the last time Richmond entered into the event. Richmond was the top A-10 team in the event, finishing ahead of the other four (George Mason 7th, UMass 14th, St. Joseph's 18th, Fordham 22nd).
In the 113th IC4A Championships on the men's side, Richmond took 15th in the 31-team field with 408 points.
Stuart Terrill finished first for the Spiders in the 8K race with a ninth place finish and 24:12.7 clocking before a gap grew between him and the next-fastest Spider runner in Jordan Bendura who finished 105th with a 26:03.5.
Freshman Henry Haase was the third Richmond finisher with a 26:06.2 for 111th, Tanner Crochet ran a 26:15.7 for 128th, and Jake Schindel finished in 147th with a time of 26:24.2.
The Spiders now set their focus on the Atlantic 10 Championships hosted at Pole Green Park on Oct. 29.
