Spiders Take Down Davidson at Day 1 of Richmond Duals

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond swimming and diving program got to work Friday night, taking down Davidson 157-142 at day one of the Richmond Duals.

The Spiders took first in five events, with sophomore Abby Fuller touching first in the 50 free (23.56), followed by Lauren Medlin (24.03) and Caitlyn Hughes (24.30) to complete the sweep.

The 200 medley relay was all Spiders as Mattie Williams, Christina Levins, Claire O'Shaughnessy and Hughes clocked a 1:45.31 for first, while Caroline Weldon, Sara Greene, Fuller and Medlin took a close second with a 1:45.48.

Medlin (51.68) then took first and Hughes (52.94) followed for second in the 100 free.

Richmond took the first and second places when Hughes, Fuller, Medlin and Katelyn Pennell swam a 3:30.65 for first and O'Shaughnessy, Megan Carson, Katie Chignell and Lucy Yeomans swam a 3:32.45 for third in the 400 free relay.

Spiders went 1-2 when Katelyn Pennell swam a 2:04.39 for first in the 200 back and Weldon finished in second with a 2:04.88. the Spiders went 1-2 in in the 100 back with a 57.40 showing by Williams and a 58.00 by Weldon.

Lola Dragosavac won the 1m diving contest with a score of 242.30 and Zazi Halla finished third with a 232.65. Dragosavac finished third on the 3m board with a 236.15.

Natalie Stuart finished second in the 1,650 free with a 17:27.11.

O'Shaughnessy took second with a 56.83 and Abby Fuller finished third with a 58.25 in the 100 fly.

Levins placed third in the 100 breast with a 1:06.25. She followed that performance with another third-place finish in the 200 breast when she swam a 2:25.28.

Alexa Connors finished second and Megan Carson finished third in the 500 free with a 5:05.53 and 5:05.75 clocking, respectfully, and Chignell took third with a 1:53.57 in the 200 free.

The Spiders are back at it for day two tomorrow when they take on Duquesne.
