Spider Hockey Falls 2-1 to Stanford on Senior Day

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Stanford University Sunday at Crenshaw Field.
Prior to the start of the game, Richmond recognized each of their six seniors: Lindsey Frank (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Evie Hanson (Virginia Beach, Va.), Tess Keppel (Baltimore, Md.), Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.), Regan McCrossan (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Sutton Orndorff (Charlotte, N.C.), as well as Stanford's four seniors and two graduate students.
Richmond, now 6-11 on the season and 2-4 in Atlantic 10 play, wraps up the 2022 regular season Friday, Oct. 27 against VCU at 3 p.m. at Cary Street Field on ESPN+.
The squads headed into the half scoreless, as both teams were unable to hold possession in their attacking third. Both teams only registered one shot on goal that both keepers stopped and one penalty corner.
Richmond took the lead in the 39th minute of the game when sophomore Stevie Drum (Virginia Beach, Va.) deflected in Keppel's shot off a penalty corner started by freshman Jess McMeeking (Canterbury, England). Drum tallied her third goal of the season with the flick in, while Keppel collected her third assist and McMeeking picked up her second helper as the inserter.
Stanford tied the game in the 47th minute, tallying a one-timer off a penalty corner. The Cardinal collected the game winner in the 59th minute, putting in a rebound off of the initial penalty corner shot.
Stanford held the upper hand in shots (15-5), shots on goal (7-2) and penalty corners (7-3).
Senior goalie Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) made five saves.
