Spider Hockey Drops 2-1 Season Finale at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team dropped the 2022 regular season finale, 2-1, at VCU Friday at Cary Street Field. Richmond closes the season with a 6-12 record and 2-5 in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
From the first whistle, both squads were battling for the upper hand. VCU found the back of the net first in the 13th minute. The Spiders picked up a corner with 30 seconds in the quarter, but were unable to capitalize.
The Spiders came back in the second quarter to tie the game in the 17th minute. Senior Tess Keppel's (Baltimore, Md.) one-timer off of freshman Jess McMeeking 's (Canterbury, England) penalty corner insert was blocked, but the Spiders kept after the play. Junior Madi Hyatt (Fredericksburg, Va.) got behind the VCU goalie and put her stick on the ball for the goal.
Richmond goalie Kristen Rake (Wynnewood, Pa.) made four saves in the first half. Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) tallied five of her seven saves in the third quarter to keep the score tied at 1-all heading into the final 15 minutes of the game.
VCU collected the game-winner in the 54th minute of action.
