Swimming and Diving Drops Pair of Duals at Queens

Charlotte, N.C.— The University of Richmond swimming and diving program dropped two duals over the weekend at Queens University of Charlotte, falling to the host Royals 188-127 and to Vanderbilt 172.5-142.50.
The Spiders opened with a third-place finish in the 400 medley relay when Katleyn Pennell, Sara Greene, Claire O'Shaughnessy and Lauren Medlin clocked a 3:53.60. O'Shaughnessy then finished second in the 200 fly with a 2:06.75 showing and Medlin swam a 52.11 for third in the 100 free.
Abby Fuller and Caitlyn Hughes followed each other in the 50 free, with Fuller swimming a 24.03 for second and Hughes swimming a 24.30 for third.
Richmond swept the 200 backstroke as Pennell (2:04.87), Caroline Weldon (2:05.39) and Mattie Williams (2:07.46) took the first three spots.
The Spiders then closed day one by finishing second in the 200 free relay when Fuller, Hughes, Lucy Yeomans and Lauren Medlin finished with a time of 1:35.82.
Richmond opened day two with a second place finish of 1:47.37 in the 200 medley relay thanks to Weldon, Greene, Fuller and Medlin.
Hughes won the 200 free with a 1:52.60 posting and Katie Chignell swam a 4:35.29 for third in the 400 IM. Pennell finished third in the 100 back with a 58.02. Richmond took third in the 400 free relay with a 3:29.86.
