Devin Craven Named SoCon Defensive Player Of The Week

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond redshirt sophomore goalie Devin Craven (McLean, Va.) was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday for his performance against No. 4 North Carolina on the road.

Craven made his first career start and posted a career-best 16 saves against the Tar Heels. Craven's 16 saves are tied for sixth-most in a single game and the most by a Spider making their first career start in program history. He posted a .552 save percentage for the game and picked up four ground balls. Prior to the season opener, Craven had played in four career games, making nine saves in just under 30 minutes of action.

Craven becomes the fourth Spider goalie to earn SoCon Player of the Week honors in program history. He joins the likes of Benny Pugh (nine times), Blake Goodman (two times) and Jack Rusbuldt (two times).

The Spiders open the home portion of their regular season Saturday hosting Marist. Faceoff is set for 11 a.m. at Robins Stadium. Admission is FREE.
