Budnik Drops 20 Points in Loss to Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Addie Budnik dropped 20 points Wednesday evening as the Spiders fell 80-68 to Duquesne on the road.
The Spiders (14-12, 5-8 A-10) got on the board at 7:33 in the first with a 3-pointer from Claire Holt, and her putback layup later gave Richmond a 7-6 lead at 5:33. However, the Dukes (10-15, 5-8 A-10) responded with a 7-0 run to go up 13-7, and the Spiders would never lead again in the game. Cayla Williams knocked down a late three, but the Spiders trailed 17-14 at the end of the first.
The Spiders kept answering Duquesne to keep their deficit at three points early in the second until the Dukes hit a triple to go up 26-20, but Emma Squires later drained a three to pull the deficit back to three points. Kylee Lewandowski checked in and seconds later drilled one from deep to make it 34-30 with 2:23 to go, but then the Dukes went up by 10 on three straight buckets and Richmond trailed 42-32 at the half.
Richmond scored five straight to open the third, but then missed four straight free throws and the score stood at 42-37 until Grace Townsend swiped a Duquesne pass to set Addie Budnik up for a layup at 7:12 to make it 42-39. The Dukes then went on a 15-2 run to go up 59-43 with 2:25 to go in the frame. Katie Hill and Emma Squires combined for five free throws in the last two minutes, and the Spiders entered the final frame down 61-48.
Both teams exchanged buckets through the first four minutes of the fourth until three straight layups for the Dukes pushed their lead to 75-59 with 5:00 to go. Richmond cut its deficit down to 75-65 at 2:33 with six straight points and Budnik hit a last-minute three, but Duquesne added to the lead with a pair oof free throws to close out the game.

- Claire Holt also posted double-figures with 13 points alongside five rebounds and two assists.
