Purcell Medals Twice to Lead Spiders at Day Three of Championships

Geneva, Ohio— The University of Richmond swimming and diving team took two more trips to the podium at day three of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the SPIRE Institute Friday. After three days, the Spiders are in third place with 330 points.
Maggie Purcell was the first to medal, taking home bronze in the 200 free with a 1:49.08. Later, she led the 400 medley relay squad of herself, Katelyn Pennell, Sara Greene and Claire O'Shaughnessy to another third place finish with a 1:49.08.
O'Shaughnessy claimed fourth in the 100 fly with a 54.27 posting, while Abby Fuller was close behind with a 54.85 for fifth.
Laura Davis (4:23.51) finished eighth in the 400 IM, while Jenna Miller (4:25.74) finished 11th and Emma Martin (4:25.74) followed for 12th.
Behind Purcell in the 200 free, Meghan Carson swam a 1:50.23 for 11th while Lucy Yeomans clocked a 1:51.50 for 16th place.
The 100 back saw Pennell finish ninth with a 54.52 and Mattie Williams finish 16th with a 56.55.
On the three-meter board, Emma Yeakley wrapped her career with a 207.45-point showing for 15th.
Richmond concludes the championships tomorrow with the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 1650 free and 400 free relay.
