Spiders Set DMR School Record Friday

Winston-Salem, N.C.— The University of Richmond distance medley relay squad of Kayla O'Connell (Marshfield, Mass.), Rachel Helbling (McDonald, Pa.), Brooke Fazio (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and Elizabeth Stockman (Rocky Hill, Conn.) set a new program record Friday at the JDL Fast Track's JDL DMR Invitational.
The squad ran a 11:21.53 on the 200-meter flat track to break the previous record of 11:23.61 set in 2013.
Kayla O'Connell kicked things off when she ran the 1200m leg with a 3:29.68 split, followed by Rachel Helbling's 400 time of 54.34, Brooke Fazio's 800 of 2:08.10 and Elizabeth Stockman's 4:49.43 1,600 time.
The Spiders now turn its attention to the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships next week, Feb. 25-26 at George Mason.
The Spider men competed in the 5,000 as they chased IC4A Indoor Championship qualifying marks. Sean Doolan ran an indoor personal best (15:02.89) to win the race. Jordan Bendura (15:09.50) and Patrick Sutphin (15:16.45) set personal bests and Robert Gunia ran a 15:33.98 to go third, fourth and sixth.
