02/05/2022 | Women's Basketball
OLEAN, N.Y. – Kate Klimkiewicz recorded her first double-double of the season and Emma Squires posted 22 points Saturday afternoon, but the Richmond Spiders fell to St. Bonaventure, 74-66, on the road. Richmond (13-10, 4-6 A-10) led by 13 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bonnies (12-9, 4-6 A-10) went on to outscore the Spiders 65-34 the rest of the game.
Richmond went on a 15-0 run featuring three straight triples that spanned 4:36 in the first quarter while holding the Bonnies scoreless for nearly six minutes in the frame en route to a 22-9 lead after the first 10 minutes.
St. Bona's opened the second with a 7-0 run to force a Richmond timeout, and the Spiders came out of the timeout with a triple from Siobhan Ryan to push Richmond's lead to 25-16. The Bonnies later pulled within one with a pair of free throws to make it 27-26 at 1:42, but Klimkiewicz answered that with her third triple of the day, and the Spiders led 32-28 at the half.
The Bonnies continued to chip away at their deficit, tying things up early in a third quarter that saw four ties and four lead changes. The two teams were all even at 50-50 heading into the final frame.
Grace Townsend snagged the lead back with a layup in the opening seconds of the fourth, but the Bonnies then went on a 9-0 run to pull away. Squires pulled Richmond back within two at 1:48 after a 3-pointer and layup which made it 66-64, but that's as close as the Spiders would get to taking the lead back late in the game. Squires put up 10 of Richmond's 16 points in the fourth.
