Spiders Defeat Duquesne to Advance to A-10 Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – The eighth-seeded University of Richmond women's tennis team defeated ninth-seeded Duquesne, 4-1, Tuesday afternoon to advance to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

The Spiders will now face No. 1 seed VCU in the quarterfinals Thursday, April 28 at 11:30 a.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

Richmond took courts one and two in doubles play to secure the opening point of the match. Emily Dunbar and Sara Salemyr won 6-4 on court one before Carly Cohen and Marta Buendia won the tiebreaker 9-7 on court two to clinch the doubles point for the Spiders.

In singles action, the Spiders took the point on court five as Duquesne was retired with Buendia up 5-2 in the first set. Dunbar then took a commanding win on court one, 6-2, 6-2, before Salemyr clinched the match on court four with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
