GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Richmond senior Emily Ward carded a 1-over 73 in the final round of the Ironwood Invitational at Ironwood Golf & Country Club Tuesday, three shots clear of any other Spider. Ward's 73 included three birdies and an eagle on the 490-yard 16th hole.Â
"It was a reachable par 5 and I knew I needed to make a birdie," said Ward. "I hit a really great drive and gave myself a good angle to the green. I had 197 yards out and I was hoping to just get it on the green for a good look. I ended up hitting a great shot to four feet and made the putt!"
Ward moved four spots up the individual leaderboard Tuesday, finishing the event tied for 36th in the field of 77 at 224 (+8). Ward's eagle helped her play the par 5s in 5-under par during the event, tied for third-best in the field.Â
Sophomore Rory Weinfurther was Richmond's top finisher in the event, tying for 18th at 220 (+4). Weinfurther shot 76 (+4) Tuesday to secure her seventh top-20 finish in eight tournaments this season.Â
Junior Vicky Zhu tied for 71st at 237 (+21), two shots in front of freshman Christine Mandile, who placed 73rd at 239 (+23). Junior Kendall Miller was 77th at 254 (+38).
The Spiders, missing three members of their lineup due to injury, finished 12th in the 13-team field at 918 (+54).Â
Richmond's next competition is the Patriot League Championship at Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md. on April 15-17.Â
