RICHMOND, Va. -- Lauren Jones and Emily Ward have been named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for their academic and competitive performances during the 2021-22 season. This is the fourth straight year multiple Spiders have earned WGCA All-American Scholars honors, extending the longest streak in program history. All-American Scholars are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and compete in at least half of their team's competitive rounds during the course of a season.Â
Ward, who graduated with a degree in Biology in May, is now the only four-time WGCA All-American Scholar in program history. Prior to this season, Ward and Lauren Folgosa (2007-09) were Richmond's only three-time honorees. Ward posted a 76.69 stroke average during the 2021-22 season while competing in all 28 of Richmond's competitive rounds. Her best finish of the season was a fourth-place showing at the Kingsmill Spring Intercollegiate in March.Â
Jones, a rising sophomore, registered three top-10 finishes during the 2021-22 season, including a 10th-place result at April's Patriot League Championship that earned her Second Team All-Conference honors. Jones is the sixth Richmond freshman to be named a WGCA All-American Scholar, joining Muskan Uppal (2020), Ward (2019), Lizzie Reedy (2018), Folgosa (2007), and Elizabeth Cushing (2003). Â
Richmond has earned nine All-American Scholar honors over the last four seasons: a program-record three in 2021 (Ward, Uppal, and Vicky Zhu) and two in 2019, 2020, and 2022. From it's inaugural season in 2003 to 2018, Richmond totaled 11 All-American Scholar honors.Â
