Richmond, Va. – Richmond women's lacrosse head coach Anne Harrington has announced the addition of transfers Clare McCooe and Katie Riehl ahead of the 2023 season.
A defender and draw specialist, McCooe joins the Spiders from Manhattan College where she played her freshman campaign in 2022, while Riehl joins from Boston College where she spent the last two seasons as a member of the national powerhouse Eagles team.
As a freshman, McCooe led the Jaspers in the circle, collecting 113 draw controls while helping teammate Andrea Liotta record 102. The Ridgewood, N.J. native played in and started all 19 games of the Jaspers' season and comes to Richmond as a sophomore. The six-footer ranked second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in draw controls per game with 5.95 and ended the 2022 season ranked 27th overall in the NCAA as the highest-ranked freshman.
Riehl joins the Spiders from Boston College where she was a member of the Eagles team that advanced to the NCAA national championship games in 2021 and 2022—winning the title in the former. A high school teammate of fellow Richmond women's lacrosse player Becca Sturtz, the Cockeysville, Md. product scored 105 career points (59 goals, 46 assists) while at Roland Park Country School and will join the Spiders as a junior.
McCooe and Riehl will join incoming Spider freshmen Amadi Higgins, Emma Kroneberger, Alexis Morton, Madeline Rudolph, Jordyn Harrison and Juliana Stanley as newcomers for the 2023 season.
