RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's basketball team has announced its non-conference slate for the 2022-23 season, highlighted by a pair of holiday tournaments and a pair of ACC opponents.
The Spiders will play four non-conference home games, most notably hosting Duke at the Robins Center in December. The squad also plays five road games which includes a trip to Clemson, and four neutral site games spread across the Navy Classic in Annapolis over Thanksgiving weekend and the Puerto Rico Clasico in San Juan leading into Christmas break.
"We are really excited about this year's schedule. The two tournaments were huge gets for us. Navy's base is an unbelievable setting, and I look forward to our players getting that experience. The Puerto Rico trip will be an incredible opportunity to get away to a tropical environment in December while playing two quality opponents," said head coach Aaron Roussell. "The opportunity to have Duke come play a game in Robins is huge. That is an incredible program coached by an Olympic legend, and the Blue Devils will be one of the top teams in the ACC this year. To have two ACC games on the schedule will go a long way in preparing us for Atlantic 10 play this season."
Richmond begins its 2022-23 campaign with three games in the opening week of play. The Spiders travel to Liberty to open the season Nov. 7 before hosting Mount St. Mary's in their home opener Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Robins Center. After that, the Spiders travel to Clemson to face the Tigers Nov. 13.
The Spiders remain on the road with a trip to UMBC Nov. 17 before hosting Hampton Nov. 20. Richmond then heads to Annapolis to compete in the Navy Classic where the Spiders will face Idaho Nov. 26 and Northern Illinois Nov. 27.
To open the month of December, the Spiders travel to in-state foe William & Mary Dec. 1 before returning to the Robins Center for back-to-back games. Richmond hosts Duke Dec. 4 and Longwood a week later on Dec. 11 for the last two home games before conference play.
After that, the Spiders play at Elon Dec. 15 before heading to San Juan to play in the Puerto Rico Clasico at the historic Roberto Clemente Coliseum. There, Richmond faces Ball State Dec. 20 and Tarleton State Dec. 21.
"This schedule will challenge us, but it will have us well prepared to contend in what will be another tough league this season," said Coach Roussell.
