Field Hockey falls at No. 19 UMass

Amherst, Mass. – The University of Richmond was unable to get back in the win column Friday afternoon, falling 5-0 to No. 19 Massachusetts at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Richmond, now 7-8 on the year and 2-4 in A-10 play, continue road action Sunday taking on Yale at noon at Johnson Field in New Haven, Conn.
The squads batted to a scoreless opening quarter, as UMass fired off four shots and awarded two penalty corners.
UMass got on the board just 42 seconds into the second quarter on a penalty corner. The home squad then added a second penalty corner goal in the 25th minute.
The Spiders picked up three shots and two penalty corners in the second quarter but were unable to score. UR goalkeeper Kristen Rake tallied four of her six saves in the first 30 minutes of action.
UMass added a goal in the third quarter in the 33rd minute. The Minutewomen picked up two goals in the final frame, both off penalty corners.
UR finished the game with four of the squad's eight shots on goal and earned six penalty corners.
