Field Hockey Tallies Shutout Over Towson

TOWSON, Md. – University of Richmond Field Hockey got back in the win column Sunday after collecting a 2-0 victory over Towson at TU Field Hockey Complex.
Richmond, now 7-5 on the season, returns to Atlantic 10 action Friday when the squad hosts nationally ranked Saint Joseph's at Crenshaw Field for a 5 PM match up.
Jess McMeeking put the Spiders on the board in the ninth minute of the contest when she put in the rebound off Cori Nichols penalty corner shot. McMeeking now has four goals on the season.
The Spiders limited the Tigers to just two shots, none on goal, and one corner in the first half. UR tallied six shots and four corners in the first 30 minutes of action.
Towson tallied six shots but again none on frame and earned five corners in the third quarter, as the Spiders defensive penalty corner didn't allow a goal.
Stevie Drum put the dagger in the Tigers tail when she beat the TU keeper one-on-one in the 58th minute of action. McMeeking collected her fifth assist of the season on the play, feeding Drum for her team-leading seventh goal from the top of the circle.
Kristen Rake made three saves as she collected her third shutout of the season.
UR took six shots to finish with 12 on the day and had three more corners in the second half for seven total. Towson finished with 11 shots, three on goal, and seven total corners.
