Spiders Ground Eagles Saturday Evening at Home

RICHMOND, Va. – Behind another stellar game from Siobhan Ryan, who finished the game with 20 points on 6 of 8 from beyond the arc, the University of Richmond Women's Basketball team picked up a dominate 76-44 win over visiting American Saturday evening at home. With the win, the Spiders improved to 3-1 overall and recorded the first win over the Eagles since Feb. 25, 2001, while the Eagles fell to 1-3. In addition, Head Coach Aaron Roussell recorded his 68th win at the helm of the Spiders, placing him at No. 7 all-time in the Women's Basketball record book, surpassing Joanne Boyle (2002-05, 67 wins).

How it happened
American was first on the board with a quick trey 33 seconds in to the contest, and followed the play with another three pointer two minutes later to go up 6-0. Grace Townsend finally got the offense going for the Spiders with a jumper, and Ryan followed the play up with a trey to bring the Spiders within one, 6-5, with 6:09 left in the quarter. After exchanging points, Townsend sparked a 10-2 run to build a 22-15 lead to end the quarter.
In the second 10 minutes, Addie Budnik finally got on the board with a wide-open trey courtesy of Townsend. Two minutes later, another trey from Budnik and a jumper from Townsend pushed the Spider lead to 16, 33-17. As time expired in the half, the Eagles were able to get a few points on the board, but Richmond woulld maintain its lead, 40-24, with just over a minute to play. Laren VanArsdale would get a final free throw off to send the Spiders into the locker room up 41-24.
The Spiders came out of the break with an 8-0 run sparked by Katie Hill to give the Spiders a 25 point lead, 49-24. Later in the quarter, Maggie Doogan, Rachel Ullstrom, Torin Rogers and Ryan combined for 14 points to give Richmond a 63-33 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
A deep bucket from Ullstrom opened the final 10 minutes of action as Richmond continued its dominating scoring offense courtesy of buckets from Melissa Mwanza, Ryan, and Faye Parker. With just under three minutes in the game, Rogers and Kylee Lewandowski combined for two field goals and Courtney Swider recorded her first collegiate theft with eight seconds left to give the Spiders the 76-44 win.
