Four Spiders Collect Postseason A-10 Field Hockey Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Four members of the University of Richmond Field Hockey team garnered postseason Atlantic 10 Conference honors, the league announced prior to the start of the conference tournament Thursday.
Seniors Olivia De Cain and Alexandria Lavelle collected Second Team accolades while freshmen Charly Faherty and Freya MacKay picked up Rookie Team honors.
De Cain, a native of Bryn Mawr, Pa., started in 17 contests on the defensive line and served as team captain for a second season. She scored her first collegiate goal off a penalty corner play on Senior Day against Saint Louis and tallied a defensive save against Old Dominion.
Lavelle, a native of Bryn Mawr, Pa., started all 18 games at midfield and was a vital part of both penalty corner units. Lavelle finished second on the team with 15 points on four goals and seven assists. She scored against James Madison, Davidson, Queens and Saint Louis, including a penalty stroke to put the Spiders on the scoreboard and assisted the overtime game-winner over Davidson. Lavelle tallied at least one point in seven-straight games (Sept. 3-29).
Faherty, a native of Invercargill, New Zealand, played in all 18 contests as a member of the midfielder corps. She finished the season with five points, tallying two goals and one assist. Faherty scored her first collegiate points with an assist against James Madison and her first collegiate goal against American.
MacKay, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, started 17 of 18 contests at center back as a key member of defensive squad and both sides of the penalty corner units. She finished the season with five points, on one goal and three assists. MacKay tallied her first collegiate point with an assist against American and scored her first collegiate goal against Stanford. She also tallied assists in A-10 contests against Lock Haven and VCU and picked up a defensive save against Lock Haven.
