RICHMOND, Va. – Following a 7-2 start to the season, including huge wins over Maine and Drake, and a 3-0 mark inside the Robins Center, the University of Richmond Women's Basketball team debuted at No. 41 out of 360 NCAA DI teams in the initial NCAA Women's Basketball NET rankings of the 2023-24 season. The Spiders received the highest ranking in the Atlantic 10 Conference and is one of three A-10 schools in the top 50, leading Saint Joseph's (45) and Davidson (46).
The NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) was introduced before the 2018-19 season, replacing the RPI as the primary sorting tool for the NCAA tournament selection committee. The NET considers game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses when determining rankings. The rankings are available on the NCAA Website.
The Spiders are coming off a 69-40 win inside the Robins Center on Sunday over Le Moyne. In the game, the Spiders shot 23 of 52 (44.2%) from the field, 9 of 28 (32.1%) from deep and 14 of 17 (82.4%) from the free throw line. In addition, the team also posted 40 rebounds, 13 assists, nine blocks and 16 points off 15 Dolphin turnovers. Currently, the team leads the conference in blocks per game (7), while Addie Budnik leads the league in blocks per game (3) and total blocks (6), while she is second in the A-10 in three-point percentage.
Richmond looks to extend its home-win streak to 11, as the team plays host to Appalachian State on Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. before welcoming Liberty on Dec. 16 at the same time.
