02/18/2023 | Men's Lacrosse
RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Spiders Men's Lacrosse team scored seven straight goals in the second period to break open its game vs Bucknell Saturday, cruising to an 18-5 win vs the Bison at Robins Stadium.
Junior Luke Grayum scored a career-high four goals, including the first two of Richmond's decisive 7-0 run in the second quarter, and added four assists for a game-high eight points.
Grad student Derrek Madonna also scored four times, his first four goals since transferring to Richmond from Hobart during the offseason, and registered two assists.
Richmond, coming off a loss to top-ranked Maryland in its season opener, found itself deadlocked with Bucknell 12 seconds into the second quarter, when a goal by Bucknell's Michael Meyer evened the score at 2-2.
The Spiders would outscore Bucknell 7-0 over the remainder of the quarter, taking a 9-2 lead at halftime. Richmond's lead reached double digits at the 4:07 mark of the third quarter when a goal by junior Lance Madonna, who finished with one goal and three assists, made the score 13-3.
UR continued to push, scoring its last goal with 8:44 left in the fourth quarter to make the score 18-4. Bucknell added a late goal to make the final 18-5, not nearly enough to prevent the Spiders from winning their fifth straight game at Robins Stadium.
Sophomore Henry Alpaugh and freshman Joe Sheridan each recorded multi-goal games, with two goals apiece, while senior Dalton Young added a goal and three assists.
Sophomore Jared Chenoy ensured the Spiders had plenty of opportunities on offense, winning 18 of his 23 faceoffs and collecting 11 ground balls.
Richmond is now 1-1 on the season and 3-0 all-time vs the Bison, also beating Bucknell in 2019 (13-11) and 2018 (9-8).
The Spiders will continue their homestand Friday at 4 PM against Towson before hosting Fairfield next Sunday at 1 PM at Robins Stadium.
