Spiders Track & Field Finishes Third at A-10 Championships
02/27/2023 | Women's Track & Field
Kingston, R.I. - The University of Richmond track & field team put together many incredible performances at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Conference Championships, finishing the two-day event with 92 points and the third-place overall finish. George Mason finished right ahead in second-place with 116 points and VCU took the conference title with 149 points.Â
Day one started the competition off incredibly strong for the Spiders as Madison Trippett grabbed the first medal for Richmond of the weekend as she took a third-place finish in the 5k with a time of 16:48.97 (missing her personal best by .07 of a second). Just after Trippett's finish in the 5k, the Richmond DMR squad of Kyra Keurentjes, Virginia Beringer, Caroline Donohoe and Elizabeth Stockman broke into the history books. With a time of 11:34.35, the Spiders not only finished in first to take the gold, they broke the facility, school and meet record for the event. The previous meet and facility record of 11:35.23 was set for nine years as Duquesne placed it in 2014.Â
Day two prevailed to be even better for Richmond as they came out with seven more podium visits
Madison Trippett added another individual medal to her pocket as she rung in the gold with a first-place finish of 4:52.27 in the mile. Elizabeth Stockman was not far behind Trippett as she grabbed the silver in the event with a time of 4:56.35 in the second-place finish. Richmond dominated the mile with the top two finishes along with a fifth-place finish by Allison Colflesh (5:03.54).
The 800m was a success for Richmond as well. Kyra Keurentjes took the second place finish (2:11.92) to take the silver, and Caroline Donohoe finished third (2:15.17) to get the bronze.Â
The 1k proved the same results for the Spiders as Kate McAndrew finished second (2:50.90) and Kayla O'Connell took third (2:51.81)
Richmond ended their weekend off in winning fashion as the 4x800 squad of Kyra Keurentjes, Dylan Miller, Kayla O'Connell and Kate McAndrew took the conference title in the race with the gold (9:00.60). Keurentjes exploded from the beginning, making it hard for any of the other opponents to make up for the lost distance. Miller, O'Connell and McAndrew did a great job keeping that space and securing the win.Â
With nine podium visits the Spiders finished with 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronze.
Next up, Richmond will continue their indoor season at next weekend's ECAC/IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass.
