Women’s Tennis Predicted to Finish Third in the A-10 Preseason Poll; Campodonico Named Preseason All-Conference

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Tennis team was predicted to finish third in the 2023 Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, announced by the league office Wednesday.
Defending A-10 champion VCU was picked league favorite, with 168 points and 12 first-place votes while Massachusetts was picked second with 141 points. The Spiders picked up the final first-place vote for third in the poll with 131 points, while Davidson (121) and Fordham (115) rounded out the top five. George Washington and Saint Louis are tied for sixth with 101 points each and Dayton (72), Rhode Island (67) and Duquesne (61) were picked to finish within the top-10. George Mason, St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph's closed out the table with 49, 31 and 25 points, respectfully.
In addition, senior Andrea Campodonico was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference team. The Asuncion, Paraguay native was named to the second team All-Atlantic 10 in 2020-21, and as a freshman, led the team with a 13-6 overall singles record and was 7-2 during the fall season.
In 2020-21, she finished second on the team with a 9-3 overall record in singles going 9-3 at the No. 3 spot and went 3-1 against A-10 opponents with wins against Duquesne, Saint Joseph's and George Mason. In her last nine singles matches, Campodonico went 7-0 with two going unfinished and was 2-0 in singles at the A-10 Championship with wins against Davidson and Rhode Island. In addition, she led the team with 11 doubles wins and went 7-1 in the last eight doubles matches with their only loss coming against VCU's Witmus/Delgado at No. 2 doubles in the A-10 Championship final.
