Annual Spring Game Concludes Spring Football Season

Richmond, Va.— The University of Richmond Football team concluded its spring season with the annual Spring Game Saturday.
Played in 12-minute running quarters in the first half and 10-minute in the second, the White Team defeated the Blue Team, 6-3, led by two field goals from Andrew Lopez.
The redshirt junior booted a 38-yard field goal to put White up 3-0 in the second quarter before Blue Team kicker and redshirt sophomore Jayden Alsheskie tied the game with a 36-yard kick before the half. With the game tied at three apiece headed into the final frame, the White Team marched down the field before redshirt junior Jackson Hardy connected on a 32-yard completion to redshirt sophomore Ja'Vion Griffin at the one-yard line. Three defensive stops later and the field goal unit returned where Lopez kicked a 22-yarder to give White the win.

Redshirt senior linebacker Tristan Wheeler was this year's recipient of the Gus Lee Winter Warrior award. Previous recipients have included Marlem Louis, Seyoum Settepani, Maurice Jackson and Billy Caughell.
Head Coach Russ Huesman also announced the 2023 team captains for the Spiders, as voted on by the players. The captains for 2023 include Wheeler, redshirt senior offensive lineman Ryan Coll and redshirt senior defensive end Marlem Louis.
