Spiders Earn Spot in A-10 Semifinal Match with win over George Washington

ORLANDO, Fla. – Behind a dominating doubles performance and three key singles wins, the University of Richmond Women's Tennis team earned a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinal with a 4-1 win over No. 5 George Washington Friday morning at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. With the win, the Spiders improved to 10-14 overall and will take on No. 1 VCU on Friday at 9 a.m. in the semifinal match.
In doubles, duo Claire Le Du and Marta Buendia again got things rolling for the Spiders, posting a 6-1 victory over Charlotte Bell/ Alejandra Ramirez (GW) on court two while Lara Bakhaya and Elizabeth Novak clinched the doubles point on court three with a 6-4 victory over Sarah Bodewes/ Lindsay Thompson (GW).
In singles, Polina Shitikova handled business on court six with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Bell (GW) and Le Du followed suit with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win on court five over Thompson (GW). After George Washington picked up a singles point on court one, Andrea Campodonico clinched the match for the Spiders with a 7-6(0), 6-2 won over Alejandra Ramirez (GW) on court three.
