Women’s Basketball Adds Graduate Transfers Anna Camden and Laren VanArsdale

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Women's Basketball team announced the signing of graduate transfers Anna Camden and Laren VanArsdale for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday.
Camden, a Downingtown, Pa. native, joins the team from Penn State. The 6'3" forward averaged 5.3 points and 19.3 minutes per game over four years while also averaging 2.8 rebounds per game and recorded 77 assists, 61 blocks and 81 steals.
"Our staff and I are thrilled to have Anna and Laren join our program," Head Coach Aaron Roussell said. "They are both seasoned veterans that have been through battles at the collegiate level that will be invaluable to this year's roster."
VanArsdale, a Powder Springs, Ga. native, joins the Spiders from Hampton University. The 5'3" guard averaged 13.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 32.3 minutes over four years with the Lady Pirates. After suffering an injury during the 2020-21 season, she returned to the court and played in 17 games with 11 starts during the 2022-23 season and averaged 8.4 points per game, 2.5 assists per game and went 52 of 121 (43%) from the field, 10 of 37 (27%) from deep and 28 of 33 (84.8%) at the line.
"We have played against Laren twice and both times she was the center of our game plan," Roussell said. "She has an ability to get to the basket, both to score and help teammates, and we feel that will only enhance our style of play and the players around her."

"We recruited Anna early in the process while at Bucknell and have tracked her career in the Big Ten," Roussell said. "When we saw her in the portal, she was one that we immediately knew we had to pursue. Her skill set at the post position is a natural fit for us; she will fit incredibly well with the others at her position and really every one of her new teammates."
LAREN VANARSDALE (Hampton)

"We feel we have been one of the 'young' teams in the league for many years and now we have a load of experience on this year's roster, especially with these two additions," Roussell continued. "Our seasoned vets combined with some exceptional young talent should make this a very exciting season for Richmond Basketball."

- Tallied 32 boards, 18 assists, 15 steals and shot 37.3% from the field while making 19 three-pointers and four free throws.
- Recorded six points against Norfolk State (11/9)
- Collected a season-high four assists against Bryant (11/18).
- Recorded a season-high three steals against Fresno State (11/26) .
- Registered a season-high four rebounds and added eight points against Michigan (3/2).
Junior (2021-22)
- Big Ten Distinguished Scholar
- Named to Academic All-Big Ten team.
- Played in 29 games, making 20 starts…Averaged 6.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game…Collected 27 assists, 28 blocks and 28 steals…Had four double-figure games and a double-double vs. Youngstown State.
- Collected eight points, six rebounds and three steals vs LIU (11/9).
- Tallied a season-high 14 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists vs Delaware State (11/16).
- Recorded her second career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds vs Youngstown State (12/12).
- Registered 10 points, seven rebounds and a career-best seven blocks against at Michigan State (2/21). The seven blocks were the most by a PSU player since Talia East against Purdue in 2014.
Sophomore (2020-21)
- Big Ten Distinguished Scholar
- Named to Academic All-Big Ten team.
- Started 23 of 24 games…Averaged 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 24.3 minutes per contest…Tallied 10 double-digit scoring efforts and one double-double.
- Recorded first-career double-double with 13 points and a career-best 10 rebounds in season opener vs Coppin State (11/25)
- Scored 11 points in Big Ten opener against Purdue (12/20).
- Finished with 10 points, five rebounds and a career high-tying three assists in the road win vs Illinois (1/28)
- Notched second-straight double-digit scoring game with 12 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists against Purdue (1/31).
- Began stretch of four-straight double-digit scoring games with 14 points vs Wisconsin (2/7), at Indiana (2/10): Scored 12 points. Michigan State (2/13): Scored 16 points, at Iowa (2/18): tallied a career-best 18 points at Rutgers (3/2): recorded 14-points.
Freshman (2019-20)
- Saw action in all 30 games while making eight starts…Finished with 4.9 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per contest in 16.4 minutes per game.
- Scored her first collegiate points, going 2-for-2 from the free throw line against Rider (11/10)
- Was 3-for-3 from downtown on her way to 11 points against Clemson (11/21).
- Was 4-for-5 from three-point range for 12 points in the Big Ten Tournament opener vs Minnesota (3/4).
- Graduated as the all-time leading scorer at The Shipley School with 1,535 points after leading the team to back-to-back state championships.
- Served as a three-year captain, guiding The Shipley School to state championships as a sophomore and junior and a state runner-up finish as a senior.
- Was a two-time first team All-State honoree, three-year All-Area recipient, four-year All-Conference player, and two-time team MVP.
- Averaged career numbers of 15 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
- Ranked as the No. 82 player in the Class of 2019 by Blue Star Basketball Report and the No. 31 player at her position by College Girls Basketball Report.
- Earned both the Shipley 125th Anniversary Athletic Achievement Award and the Lambert Leadership Award.
- Lettered three years in lacrosse.

- Saw action in 17 games with 11 starts.
- Averaged 13.3 points per game along with 2.5 rebounds, 32.3 minutes and recorded 147 steals, six blocks and 240 assists.
- Shot 39.8% from the field, 30% from deep and 78.7% from the line.
- Recorded a season-high 27 points against Delaware 3/4.
- Saw a season-high 42 minutes of action against Richmond on 11/20.
- Returned late in the season from knee injury to play in five games with four starts.
- Averaged 5.0 points and 1.6 assists per game.
- Had a season high eight points at High Point (2/20).
- Dished out season high three assists and had season high three rebounds at UNC Asheville (1/29).
- Played and started all 29 games this season for the Lady Pirates.
- Averaged 15.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest and was 146-for-360 (40.6%) from the floor on the season.
- Named BoxToRow National Player of the Week (2/16).
- Had seven 20+ points games and seven games of six or more assists.
- Had a season high of 31 points against Longwood.
- She finished 1st in scoring, and was 2nd in assists on the team. She was 1st in minutes played (38.3 mpg), 5th in scoring with 15.2 ppg and 8th in assists (3.4) in the Big South Conference.
- Earned a first team selection as well as All-Academic.
- Played a total of 1085 minutes and finished the season with 442 points, 56 steals, 100 assists, and 77 rebounds.
- Played in 30 games for the Lady Pirates, making 30 starts on the season.
- Averaged 15.7 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.1 rebounds per contest. Was 142-for-367 (38.7%) from the floor on the season.
- Scored a career-high 33 points vs. High Point on March 2, shooting 11-23 from the field and 8-10 from the line.
- Scored 29 points in Hampton's win over James Madison on Nov. 20, where she had a single game high with 12 free throws made.
- Finished the season 1st in three-point field goals made…2nd in scoring and 2nd assist and 3rd in steals on the team …she landed 4th in scoring and 9th in assist in the Big South conference…
- Earned Big South Conference Freshman of The Week honors five times.
- Named VaSID Rookie of the Year and named to VaSID second team.
- Is the second Hampton player in the last 15 years to be named Rookie of the Year.
- Named Freshman of the Year in the Big South Conference and was selected to second team All-Conference.
- Served as the captain of the varsity girl's. basketball team all four years at Hillgrove High School.
- Named Player of the Week twice
- Named to the All-County and All-Region First Team
- Led her team to the state quarterfinals as a senior.
- Averaged 20 points per game as a freshman, 25 per game as a sophomore and junior and 15 as a senior.
