Field Hockey Drops Season Opener in Overtime

RICHMOND, Va. – With three minutes left in the Friday night contest, Richmond Field Hockey's Kaitlyn Csensits powered a shot past the Longwood University goalie to force overtime at Crenshaw Field.
Longwood (1-0) sent a pass up from midfield, splitting the Richmond (0-1) defense and forcing goalie Kristen Rake to come out of the goal as the shot went in for the 2-1 Lancer victory with two minutes left in the 10-minute overtime period.
Rake had four saves in 55 minutes of action, while freshman Thea Conomikes played all 15 minutes of the third quarter.
The squads took a 0-0 tie until the 45th minute of the contest, when Longwood found the back of the net first.
UR held the upper hand in total shots, 13-10, while both squads had six on goal.
Richmond returns to Crenshaw Field Sunday to host James Madison at 2 PM on ESPN+ for UR Athletics Red Event.
