Field Hockey Streak Snapped by Lock Haven

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond Field Hockey team had their four-game win streak snapped Friday evening by Lock Haven, falling 4-3 at Crenshaw Field in Atlantic 10 action.
Richmond moves to 6-4 on the season, 2-1 in league play while Lock Haven goes to 3-6 and 1-2 on the year. The Spiders head on the road, first to take on La Salle, Friday Oct. 6 at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pa. at 3 PM. UR will wrap up the road trip at Towson, Sunday, Oct. 8 with the game time at noon.
Neither squad allowed a shot until the 11th minute, when Lock Haven converted a penalty stroke to take a 1-0 lead.
The Spiders answered 30 seconds later, when Cori Nichols fired home a shot from the top of the circle. UR converted their second penalty corner as Alexandria Lavelle started the play and Freya MacKay served as stopper on Nichols third goal of the season.
Stevie Drum put the Spiders up 2-1 in the 18th minute when she stole the ball in the circle, then faked the Eagles goalie before scoring her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Lock Haven tied the game in the 43rd minute, converting on their third penalty corner play of the third quarter. The Eagles also added a third goal in the 54th minute and the 57th minute to take a 4-2 lead.
Richmond got within a goal, in the 58th minute as Jess McMeeking tipped in a shot by Cori Nichols on a penalty corner for her third goal of the season.
Richmond had the upper hand in shots, 14-12, and shots on goal, 8-7, as well as collected more penalty corners, 8-5.
