Spiders Leave VMI Team Challenge with Double First Place Finishes

Lexington, Va. – Elke Van der Westhuizen and Alicia Dawson led the Richmond track & field program at the VMI Team Challenge with first places finishes in their individual events on Saturday. Four Spiders traveled to the event to compete.
Van der Westhuizen dominated the 600m, taking the 1st place finish at 1:38.73.
Dawson took the 1st place finish in the triple jump at 12.29m, beating out the 2nd place mark by nearly a full meter (11.36m).
Nina Lavelle competed in the 200m and the 400m. She took 3rd place in the 200m at 25.87 and 2nd place in the 400m with a mark of 59.10.
Emily Rzucidlo finished 5th in the 600m at 1:41.63, adding another score to the board for the Spiders.
Richmond took 7th overall place in the competition.
Up next, the Spiders will return to Lexington from January 26-27 to compete at the VMI Invitational.
