Women's Lacrosse Earns Top 25 Spot in IWLCA Preseason Rankings

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse program broke into the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top 25 preseason national rankings, landing at No. 19, IWLCA announced on Monday.

Richmond is coming off of a 17-4 season where they won the Atlantic 10 conference title along with a fresh chapter in the history books with the programs first ever appearance in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Spiders dominated in the first round with an 18-8 victory over Marquette. They ended their season as the No. 2 scoring offense in the country and No. 1 in draw controls per game.
As the group wrapped up their 2023 season ranked No. 14 through the IWLCA and USA Women's Lacrosse Magazine polls, they are excited to compete through the new year against a variety of great opponents.
The Spiders kick off the season with an exhibition game against Towson on February 2. They open their regular season on February 10 at Campbell at Noon. The non-conference schedule also includes Old Dominion, William & Mary, Liberty, No. 25 Navy, No. 15 UVA and No. 6 James Madison.
The Spiders will return nine seniors including Marymargaret Quinn, Ali Susskind, Nicole Burney, Katherine Lutz, Sarah Roycroft, Becca Sturtz, Maddy Sesay, Leah Kenny and Katie Riehl. The staff has also been excited to add transfers Charlotte Edwards, Meaghan Trainer and Whitney Liebler to the team. A group of ten freshman have also bolstered the roster for Richmond heading into the 2024 season.
The 2024 Atlantic 10 Championships will be held in Pittsburgh, PA at Duquesne University through May 2-5.
