Spiders Ground Hawks, Post First win in Philadelphia Since 2007

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Behind 16 points from Addie Budnik and Maggie Doogan, the University of Richmond Women's Basketball team picked up a 64-59 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Saint Joseph's Saturday afternoon on the road. With the win, the Spiders improved to 13-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in A-10 play while the Hawks fell to 13-2 on the year and 2-1 in conference action. In addition, the Spiders picked up their first win over the Hawks in Philadelphia since 1/14/07 (W, 64-57) and snapped a five-game win streak for SJU.

How it Happened
Saint Joseph's posted a quick layup before Grace Townsend responded on the other coast to tie the game at one. Maggie Doogan then posted her first trey of the game to give Richmond a 5-2 lead. SJU completed the hoop-and-harm to tie the game at five before Addie Budnik posted an easy layup to put Richmond back ahead, 7-5. After the game was tied at 10, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run to build a 17-10 lead with 1:48 in the quarter. Rachel Ullstrom ended the scoring drought for Richmond with a triple, and Siobhan Ryan followed the play with a trey of her own to end the first quarter with the Spiders down 17-16.
Saint Joseph's extended its lead to 21-16 with back-to-back buckets to open the second quarter before Ullstrom posted another trey to get Richmond within two, 21-19. Budnik and Katie Hill combined for six points to give UR the lead, 25-23 with 6:02 left in the half, but a floating jump shot from the opposition would tie the game at 25. After exchanging points, Hill was able to post a layup for a 33-29 Spider lead, but SJU would get one final trey off to send Richmond into the locker room up by one, 33-32.
Out of the break, Budnik recorded a turnaround jumper before Ryan followed the play with a layup of her own for a 37-32 Richmond lead. Doogan sparked a 4-0 run with 8:02 left in the quarter for a 41-34 Spider lead. Another 4-0 spurt sparked from Doogan would have UR up 45-36, but the opposition wouldn't be silenced as the Hawks rallied and cut the deficit to 50-49. Townsend would stop the offensive-minded Hawks and post a layup as time expired to send Richmond into the final 10 minutes ahead 52-49.
The Hawks opened the final frame with a layup to come within striking distance, 52-51, before Budnik recorded a triple for a 55-51 Spider lead. After back-and-forth action, and Richmond staying ahead by one point, 58-57, Doogan recorded a trey to build a four-point lead, 61-57, with 42 seconds left in the game. SJU would begin to foul the Spiders, which led Richmond to go 3-4 at the charity stripe and take the win, 64-59.
