Luna Paratore Tallies Three Goals in Spiders Win at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – University of Richmond was powered to a 4-2 victory by sophomore Valen Luna Paratore's hat trick over Lock Haven Friday afternoon at Charlotte E. Smith Field to stay perfect in Atlantic 10 Conference action.
Richmond, now 9-3 on the season and 4-0 league play, returns to Crenshaw Field to host Georgetown University Sunday, Oct. 13 at noon on ESPN-Plus. Prior to the start of the game, the Spider field hockey program will honor the squad's three seniors Jessica Mullin, Annie Nash and Kristen Rake.
After a scoreless opening period, Valen Luna Paratore converted the Spiders first penalty stroke of the season in the 21st minute of action. The Spiders defense made a stop then zipped the ball up the field and connected with Lainey Nichols on a fast break. Nichols found Luna Paratore for the score to make it 2-0 Spiders in the 28th minute of the half.
At the break, Richmond held the upper hand in shots, 9-2, shots on goals, 3-1. Lock Haven had earned more corners, 2-1, as most of the half was played in the Spiders attacking third and the midfield.
Nearly three minutes into the start of the second half, Luna Paratore drew the Lock Haven goalkeeper and found Avery Russell for the goal to give the Spiders a 3-0 lead.
Lock Haven got on the board in the 39th minute on a shot deflected in on a penalty corner.
Luna Paratore collected her first collegiate hat trick in the 48th minute after corralling her first shot attempt near the endline. She then fired it in on a tight angle as the goalkeeper was unable to recover from her first shot attempt. Luna Paratore posted seven points on the day, and now leads with 11 goals in 12 contests this season.
Lock Haven got a late goal in the 55th minute to make it 4-2 at the end.
UR finished the contest with 19 shots and nine on goal and held to just three penalty corners. Lock Haven tallied just three of their eight shots on frame and picked up eight penalty corners.
