Spider Hockey Collects Senior Day Victory Over Georgetown

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond celebrated the program's three seniors Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Georgetown at Crenshaw Field. Prior to the start of the game, Annie Nash, Jessica Mullin and Kristen Rake, along with their families, were recognized as impactful members of the Spider Hockey program the past four seasons.
Richmond, now 10-3 on the season, jumps back into Atlantic 10 Conference action Friday, October 18 at nationally ranked Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia for a 3 p.m. contest. Fans can tune in on ESPN-Plus. The Spiders tallied a double-figure victory season for the first time since the 2019 season and take their 4-0 conference record on the road to reining A-10 Champion Saint Joesph's (11-2, 3-1 A-10).
Valen Luna Paratore had a penalty stroke opportunity in the 11th minute of action, but the Hoya goalkeeper made the save. Luna Paratore is 1-for-2 on the season in stroke opportunities.
Grace Wiggins put the Spiders on the scoreboard first when she netted her third goal of the season in the 12th minute of action. Wiggins scored off the Spiders fourth corner of the first quarter. Alexa Derr sent it in to start the play and Freya MacKay stick-stopped the ball to set up Wiggins for the shot.
Georgetown scored on their third penalty of the first half at the 21st minute mark, with a tip in from their inserter.
The Spiders quickly responded to retake a 2-1 lead just two minutes later when Clara Larripa tallied her 10th goal of the season on a direct insert from Derr in the 23rd minute.
At halftime, Richmond held the upper hand in shots, 12-7, and corners, 8-4.
Larripa added an insurance goal in the 36th minute of action as she took a pass from the sideline and just drove it to the top of the circle for the one-timer past the goalkeeper. Larripa is now tied with Luna Paratore to lead the Spiders with 11 goals. Larripa has 30 points off 11 goals and eight assists.
Rake had four saves on the day as she led a Spider defense to holding the Hoyas out of the attacking third for the fourth quarter and didn't allow a shot or give up a penalty corner.
UR finished with 16 shots and nine corners while holding Georgetown to 10 shots and six corners.
