HARRISONBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell, 2-1, to James Madison Sunday afternoon at the JMU Field Hockey Complex, snapping a five-game win streak.
Richmond, now 8-3 on the season, returns to Atlantic 10 Conference action Friday, Oct. 11, heading to Pennsylvania to take on Lock Haven at 3 p.m.
The Spiders got on the scoreboard in the second minute of the game, when Valen Luna Paratore blasted a shot past the JMU goalkeeper on a corner play for her eighth goal of the season. Alexa Derr sent in the pass to Jess McMeeking to start the play. McMeeking stopped the ball for Clara Larripa who drew defenders to her before finding Luna Paratore for the clear angle to the goal.

As both teams battled for possession, JMU was able to take the lead in the 22nd minute on a corner play.
The second half was mostly played in the middle of the field, as both teams had limited chances to get the ball into their attacking third. Both teams only had three shots in the second half. Richmond earned three penalty corners late in the fourth quarter but were unable to score.
Kristen Rake had two saves while Derr picked up her first defensive save of the season.
