Primiano Leads the Spiders and Richmond Sits Fourth On the Second Day of the Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Richmond women's swimming and diving team competed on the second day of the Patriot Invitational at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Leading the Spiders was freshman Gabbie Primiano.

Primiano swam the 400 IM for the first time in her collegiate career and finished first at 4:26.23. Her time qualified her for the NIC B cut for the CSCAA.Â

In the 100 fly junior Katie Chignell swam a season-best in prelims at 56.47 to move onto the finals. Chignell finished at 57.01 placing thirteenth. Freshman Madisyn Carter also set a season-best in prelims at 56.85 to advance to the finals. Carter finished sixteenth at 58.21. Junior Caitlyn Hughes qualified for the finals and finished at 58.10.Â

Senior Laura Davis swam in the finals for the 400 IM and finished at a season-best at  4:31.84 placing thirteenth. Junior Natalie Stuart also advanced to the finals and finished at 4:38.23, a new season-best. Â

Junior Katie Chignell was the top Spider finisher in the 200 free. Chignell swam a season-best in prelims at 1:51.80 and then finished seventh in the finals at 1:53.11. Sophomore Kaitlyn Bauer swam the 200 free for the first time and advanced to the finals. Bauer placed twelfth at 1:53.22. Freshman Carys Edgar swam a personal best at 1:53.64 in the prelims. In the finals, Edgar finished at 1:54.00 in sixteenth place. Junior Julia Krichev finished in the finals with a season-best at 1:54.81.Â
In the 100 breast, sophomore Presley Baber swam in the finals and finished with a season-best at 1:05.28 placing thirteenth. Competing in this event for the first time, freshman Lena Amare finished in the finals at 1:05.50. Sophomore Trinity Schulze swam a season-best at 1:05.79.Â

Junior Caroline Weldon finished with a season-best in the 100 back at 56.76, placing eleventh in the finals. Amare also swam this event for the first time in her collegiate career finishing at 56.04. Junior Julia Krichev advanced to the finals and finished at 57.87, also with a season-best.Â

The Spiders 200 medley relay (A) finished seventh at 1:43.53. Swimming the relay were Weldon (26.00), Primiano (28.83), Hughes (25.25) and Krichev (23.45). The relay (B), freshman Hannah Wieczorek (26.56), Baber (29.91), Carter (25.64) and sophomore Erin Budde (23.37) finished at 1:45.48 and placed eleventh.Â

In the 800 free relay, the Spiders relay teams finished back-to-back in the three and four spots. The relay (A) that finished third was Hughes (1:51.71), freshman Carys Edgar (1:54.66), Bauer (1:52.89) and Chignell (1:52.05). The fourth place relay (B) was Stuart (1:54.62), who swam a personal best in her split, Amare (1:50.11), senior Leigh Spicer (1:56.16) and Budde (1:51.21).Â
